News emerging from the ongoing court proceedings between the Police Chief, other police officers and the civilians who were brutalised by the police is that the Police Chief Kayihura hired people to protest against his court appearance.
According to some of the protestors, the IGP promised them UGX 50,000 and made a deposit of UGX 20,000 but has since ignored to pay the remaining balance after a successful protest.
Kayihura-organised group of people protested outside Makindye Magistrate’s Court, saying the Police chief must be left alone to enforce law and order in the country.
Kayihura is among senior police commanders summoned to answer to cases related to the law enforcement body’s highhandedness in dealing with opposition supporters.
Earlier, Dr Kizza Besigye’s supporters said they wanted to witness Kayihura’s prosecution.
The success of the case remains in balance amid politically charged scenes.
